Need engine identification

Not sure if this is where i should post this. Mods move if you need to. Anyway i picked up a 91 Camaro and i do not believe it has the original motor in it. The i.d. off the block on the passenger side below the head are as follows.

V0604CLD
1ML130188

I am trying to see if this is a 305 or 350 without having to tear into the motor. I can not find info at all using the i.d. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Need engine identification

Engine code CLD shows up as a 73 or 77 350

Only the block casting number at the rear would better identify the block vintage

Re: Need engine identification

The thing that gets me though is the M in the VIN. M is not a 1973 or 1977 engine year code. M = 1991 which is what your car is.

Doing another search, I have found another CLD listing.

1991 305 found in third gens. L-03 TBI engine with a 700R4.

Does the 1ML130188 match the last numbers on the car's VIN? If so then it's the original engine. Sounds like you have an original 305 in the car.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Need engine identification

The plant code in that VIN snippet is "L"; Van Nuys.

The only cars AFAIK that were produced there, were F bodies.

As Alky says, if the last 6 of that VIN (which is in fact a typical Camaro VIN) match your car, it's its original motor.

Don't be fooled by the "runs too good to be a 305" BS line.
