Ignition problem 89 Camaro

I recently got my 89 Camaro from my cousin. I've been driving it for 2 months. It sat all summer (a shame, I know) after a week I had trouble starting it every so often. I would move the gear selector, move the key around and it would start right up. In the past month is got more sporadic and a few days ago it stopped working completely. I changed out the neutral safety switch about 2 weeks ago with no change. Last night I changed the lock cylinder, still nothing. The lights and radio come on, I can hear the fuel pump but it just wont turn over. My cousin said he bypassed the VATS with a resistor last year. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

Could be a VATs problem. The resistor trick really only bypasses the resistor in the key, not the module itself. The module is still in the dash, giving a signal to the ECU, and could be faulty, mine went out on me two years ago.

When you turn the key to the ON position does the SECURITY light come on for a second then turn back off?

Re: Ignition problem 89 Camaro

Is the module in the column or deeper in the dash? Can I bypass that as well or would I have to get a new module? I'm not 100% if the light comes on for a second. I didn't notice it but I will definitely check it when I get home.
Thanks for the reply!

The module is effing BURIED super deep in the dash. Its between the firewall and the HVAC ducting, supposedly. But before we get into that can of worms, see if the light blinks on or not. No need to jump to conclusions.
