Balancer mark moving the wrong way

Balancer mark moving the wrong way
So I installed a crate 383 stroker in my 83 camaro and I'm trying to dial in the timing but I'm having a issue ive never heard of before.
With vacuum advance plugged timing light clamp on #1 plug wire when i rotate the dizzy counterclockwise to advance the timing the mark on the balancer moves towards the passengers side and when i move the dizzy clockwise the timing mark moves towards the drivers side advanced.
The car will only run with it showng me at 12 degrees retared timing ?
balancer has not spun from center hub so im lost
Any ideas ?

Re: Balancer mark moving the wrong way
Timing mark moving towards the passenger side IS advanced. From the zero mark moving towards the passenger side (left of the TDC mark as viewed from the front of the engine) is BEFORE TDC. The further in that direction, the more advance. Towards the driver's side (right of the TDC mark) is AFTER TDC, less advance.
All this is backwards depending on whether you have a static pointer with a degreed balancer (typical of race engines or some performance crate motors) or a degreed timing tab with the single scribed timing mark on the balancer moving with changes in timing to line up somewhere against that tab (as the factory does it).
