Need Help 91' Rs V8 Head Gasket leak

Hey guys, I need help on what I need parts and any special tools to replace a head gasket. And also how to replace it as well. I have a 91 rs Camaro, tbi v8. All I know is that I have to take off a lot of things to just replace the gasket. I'm not looking for a temporary fix or anything, just need to get the job done right.

Re: Need Help 91' Rs V8 Head Gasket leak

go to your local parts store, buy a Haynes Repair manaul for your car, it will walk you threw the process

you will need,

motor oil
oil filter
antifreeze
RTV gasket sealer,
head bolt set
a head gasket set (should come with intake gaskets im assuming your TBI)
spark plugs, might as well do wires to while your at it

essentially you...
drain your coolant and oil.
remove serp belt
air cleaner
remove alternator and ac compressor (anything bolted directly to the heads)
unplug and unhook anything attatched to the intake (you can leave the throttle body on)
remove the valve covers,
remove intake manifold
remove rocker arms and push rods
remove exhaust manifolds
removed head bolts
pop the head off.
remove gasket material from the block and head

assembly is the same but in reverse, just make sure u torque the head bolts right and adjust ur valves right, so youll need a torque wrench besides basic hand tools, i would invest in that haynes manual for sure they are $25 well worth the $, and/or have an experienced mechanic help you

Re: Need Help 91' Rs V8 Head Gasket leak

the haynes manual covers 1982-1992 camaros, the process is the basically the same for any sbc, the only difference is goong to be ur wiring and fuel lines, and how u adjust ur valves if u have flat tappet or roller, your cars a 91 so you have roller, the easy ones.

just make sure u put all the push rods back in the SAME hole they came out of, a card board box with a bunch of holes in it is a good way to keep them organized, u dont HAVE to do this with the pushrods altho i do recomend it.... ur supposed to if you remove the lifters tho which you wont have to do.
