may go with the xe274h more torque than the 284. not much of a hp gain with the 284, just sounds nastier and last time i checked sound dosent win races. lol

Those cams should work with the compression. You'll need the big one to have a shot at pump gas imo. Dont know if the dcr works out right but its gonna be high

Closer to 9.7-9.8:1 comp with the xe274 would be ideal for mid 12's

Orr-that has always been my issue.Primary question is why the hell have such a SCR only to bleed it off with a cam selection.Ya know the worst case is detonation in the upper rpm ranges where you can't hear it.You do know as the engine increases rpm the time that cam has to bleed off SCR and the effect of DCR is lessen a ton.
These guys push the envelope with miss matched steel heads and then post about issues they are having.

Best recent bud to me(I do really mean that)is Skinny dealing with the same thing.

Ya know if it doesn't make sense, then it isn't sensible.

You will probably have to work over the vortec heads a bit for that cam. A light port and polish should help them at max lift.

Re: 355 recipe for mid to high 12 1/4

True, everything is a package but alot of builds seem to get thrown together and then have to deal with it.

If you build high comp and need big cam, you better be willing to turn it to the rpm that cam works in, and better have the heads/intake to support it, or else you are wasting power.

Vortecs arent ideal to feed the big cam but the combo can work. You just end up with a flat hp curve across large rpm range and that requires you to turn rpm and add lots of gear ratio to use it.

Can Vortecs even flow air well at those kinds of RPMs?

I think the esxhaust port would be your first limitation. At minimum it would need a good porting and a 1.6 valve.

A better plan would be to look into bowtie 185 or maybe 225cc vortecs.

Maybe even one of the after market 185cc vortecs.

You do know the Eagle's are tons less than a GM forged steel which in the long run and updates you currently haven't planned on,the GM steel would handle easily.

Note-no comment or advice on good aftermarket cranks.Eagle doesn't have a good track record.
