wont stay running

so we just finished the car and finnaly got it running but he went to work and n the way back
he was headed home and all of a sudden it had a seriously ruff idol
I went down to see and it cranks and trys to start but it has a miss that comes and goes but I know its getting fuel to most cylinders
my honest opinion is his motor blew but im hoping there are other solutions " he is going to send it to a dealership that works on Pontiacs

btw its a 91 v6 a/t

and can anyone point me in a direction to swap
his v6 over to a carbureted v8 manual for a budget
