I have heard to put them under the control arms. The problems is that I can never get a more detailed suggestion than just under the control arms. I'll need all the space I can get around the frame while I fab and route my exhaust so if anyone knows anything about this, please put it on here!
Under the car you can see sort of "sub-frame rails". They look like rails that are part of the floor. You can set the car on those. You can also put the stands under the control arms, and the rear end. The best way is to put them under a good set of subframe connectors.

this picture is proof enough why you all need sfc's. note where the jackstand is, and notice that the rear wheel is way up in the air....now that's a tight bodied thirdgen.

, no offense Jza. Having never put jackstands under the control arms (we are talking the front ones aren't we?), can you describe where exactly you put them or what part of the control arm you put them under? Moderator

I usually put my jack stands under the forward hinge point of the front suspension, towards the middle of the car.
I jack it up by the cross member & there is just enough room for the jack stands on both sides.

Reading about the subframe connectors just made me remember something I was going to ask. It might be a stupid question, but where do you get them, how much are they, and do they have to be installed at a body shop, or are they pretty simple with a little bit of welding skill?

I think I paid 150 for my SSM ones, but they were unpainted, so I powdercoated them black. I bought mine thru Summit,
As for installation, I held them up while my dad welded them on... He loves to get burns...Just kidding..
It was kind of a Pain in the Butt, because the driver side was an inch off for where a hole was, so we had to modify the hole.

TheWraith: That's how I do mine: just jack it up right there at the mean of gravity and you can rotate the tires just like that.

I put the jackstands underneath the front swaybar mounts. It works pretty good too.

This may sound stupid, but are you guys jacking up one side, then place jackstand, jack up other side and place jackstand? That's what I did and I gotta tell you I was getting pretty nervous when the whole car was tipping up like knight rider! I am new at this jackstand stuff (spoiled with a lift) and appreciate any comments. How much clearance between car bottom and ground has anyone gotten from jackstands? I'd like plenty of room to at least roll over while I'm underneath. The only thing I could figure (pain in ***) would be to jack up and place, then jack up again and place. Am I being too cautious here or what?

I was (and still am) under the impression that what I bent was the lower control arm. It's a metal bar that runs from just behind one rear tire across to the same spot on the other side.
I put the car back on the ground, and it seemed to running ok before I put it in storage for the winter.. What bar is that that I bent, is it safe to drive the car, and how do I replace it?

DigitalMonarch0 sounds like your swaybar to me from the discription. I'd advise against using frame rails for jacking or supporting, gm frame rails are very soft and can collapse under the weight of the car.
On the front i use the sway bar mounts and on the rear i use the axle.

It's definitely ok to jack on the rear axle housings and/or differential housing.
As for the front stabilizer bar mounts... I wouldn't. That diagram is great, though. Love the big rear tires, too.

I've always used the jack where the jackstand points are, simply because I haven't been able to jack the car up high enough by lifting at the crossmember or the axle.
