Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

Yea, I knew that, but I read on here somewhere - I cant find it now, that the original proms could display false codes. And my car does idle at 500, my dad says he's never replaced the prom. Thing is it is recent, could that happen after 25 years, it would just start doing that? On another note, my dad had an ecm, a bad one in a drawer. It had a 350 tpi prom in it. I just found out it is a 350 tpi prom. Well anyway, I intend to try that to see if anything improves. (Fuel, codes- its doubtful, but what the hell) As for the code 36, which is a hard code it could be as you say that it could be a bad connection somewhere and I dont disagree. I figure I will try replacing the prom first and cleaning the maf - i will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. It probably won't but I can still hope. I am willing to try anything before I decide its the maf. After the prom and cleaning, I will go through the wiring, I have to regardless, but if I can fix it before hand that would be awesome. And BTW, I am really sorry I am sorta hijacking the thread. This has been knawing at me for the longest time, I saw this and my eyes widened. And my dad's been on my case about it.

The only tpi maf memcal BCC that I have seen issues with other than data loss and code 51 is the 1986 AUM .

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

well that helps, that definitely narrows it down to wiring or maf, I will know better when I put the battery back in and start playing with it. Outa curiosity, what else do you think might happen, besides it running rich, when having a 305 memcal with a 350. Also after I swap the memcals what changes in fuel consumption should I see, basically will it be a big or noticeable change or not.

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

lma47940 are you not pulling any codes? did you check your cts? and the wiring? When you ground your aldl does the iac vibrate out with the ignition on engine off? what was the voltage at the tps (center red wire i think)doing the same ignition on engine off?

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

investing in a USB to aldl cable and using tunerpro rt $32B adx you will be able to see the GPS. Yor car may actually run better in lhm.

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

I figured I would share. I pulled the car out yesterday, I cleaned the maf with berryman b-12. The inside went from black to silver. I plugged it back in, no codes. Wish I knew about the K&N sooner. My problem is solved so far ....

Oh, and I almost forgot, I did change a couple of terminals on the burn off relay, the ones that looked the worst. From what I saw, definitely a tighter connection

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

Wow this thread is old. A lot has happened to my car since my last post, for instance I no longer have TPI or a Chevy Small block, I now have a GM small block (thats what I call LS motors)

My MAF issue returned about 3 months after my last post, and after dealing with a motor that used oil like air, I did a swap, and in the process discovered that my head gaskets were on the verge of blowing.

As far as your problem Juan Santos, since you changed a bunch of things relating to timing, I would check if you are in spec with that. check for any loose connections as well

Re: Code 34 "Mass Air Flow Sensor"

As long as you didn't replace the distributor in its entirety you shouldnt have to worry about timing so much. You can always buy a timing light from harbor freight and check yourself, very simple. When My code 34 came I cleaned my mass air flow sensor with no change, So I went and bought a Re manufactured Bosch Mass air flow sensor and I still had the same issue. So after following wires and writing in different forums I came to believe my computer was shot. I still had my receipt for my mass air flow sensor and went to go take it back but decided to exchange it and well its been smooth sailing since then.

When my mass air flow sensor went on me the car could barely stay running. I had to limp it home from 10 miles away on every back road.

I am considering buying a 1985 z28, owner states that is has codes 32 and 34 present. is this a costly fix at the shop?
