Ok so I picked up a 1992 Camaro z28 about four months ago with the 305tpi in it, it has the auto trans and around 160k miles. I'm having a problem where I get and intermittent knock signal, and when I try to accelerate it retards the timing back to -3. I tried replacing the knock sensor and connector and the problem went away for a day or two then came right back. It seemed to start the first time I drove it in the rain. But that might have just been coincidence Because it was intermittent at first now its pretty damn consistent and I haven't driven it in rain since I replaced the connector. It is a t-top car and they do leak, I'm not sure if that would cause any problems. it comes in and runs behind the a-pillar trim especially on the passenger side. I know the ecu is over there but its tucked in the dash pretty good so I don't thing any water is getting on it. Hopefully someone will be able to help. And if this topic is already posted please don't yell at me I've searched but to no avail. ANY help would be amazing.

Hi. Have you checked the ignition coil, distributor pick up coil and the ignition control module?

Just a couple of ideas assuming your engine is stock.

Did you make sure the new knock sensor was correct? A 350 and 305 one look the same but work different.

Also, since you said the problem started in the rain, I would check connections for corrosion. There is a 5-pin spark module near the master cylinder, check the connections there.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up fixing it by replacing the knock sensor and the connector. The connector was all cracked up and dried out. Thanks very much for your time I really appreciate it
