v6 camshaft help

I have a 89 Camaro with 2.8l v6. I want to put a new cam in and do some head work. I was thinking a melling mtc-5 cam. I was going to put new valve springs, retainers, and lock. What else should I replace. Can I use the stock injectors with this cam. Also do I have to pull radiator to remove and put in new cam. I already have headers and true duel exhaust.

Re: v6 camshaft help

I had the MTC-5 cam in my 3.4 with springs, etc, was a nice addition. Head work would be good, but an even better improvement would be porting the intake manifold. I have a thread on here for a few years back about the gains i got on a flow bench from porting the 2.8 intake. That really woke it up above 4500rpm. Try a search in the V6 forum, this is discussed a lot in there.

Yes I already have a ported intake and both plenums. Do I have to pull the radiator to get the camshaft in?

Re: v6 camshaft help

If I remember correctly, I just had to unbolt the radiator support at the top and pull it back a bit, but not actually remove it.

Do i have to get new injectors? And are the stock one 15 or 17 lb. Do you know if they make an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

You can stick with stock ones, which i believe are 13. Its been discussed in the V6 forum before, some say 13, some say 15. I dont remember what the outcome of that whole discussion was. I think you can get an AFPR for the TPI engines and use that. I had one (may still have it) but never bolted it on.
