idea for motor mount swap
idea for motor mount swap
so i know i need to replace my motor mounts, ive been doing a ton of research on this site and its all telling me how terrible it is. and to use a coat hangar.....but i thought of a potential idea and i need to run it past the folks here which will probably tell me it cant be done and to suck it up and do it the way dozens of people suggest......anyway here it goes:
after the mount is out, ive read of some people putting the bolt on the bottom instead of the nut so its easier. So i thought, what if i put the bolt through, and weld it just inside the K-member. would this work? i mean it would make this 1,000,000 times easier!
not sure if it belongs here, but i figured this was a general motor question lol.

It'll work, but it's far from ideal. First is what if that bolt breaks? What if the threads strip out? Then there is what if you need some adjustment? When I used rubber and poly mounts, this wasn't an issue, the mounts were torqued down and then the motor dropped in. I tried this when I switched to solid mounts, and we fought with it for hours until we loosened the mounts on the cross-member, then it fell right in, and torqued them after the motor was in.
At the end of the day, it's your car. If you want to, go for it, but if it were mine I wouldn't do it.

One thing that you may be able to do is to cut "window's" in the k-member for you to stick your wrench through. Stick a piece of tape to hold the nut onto the wrench.
