noob question, no spark -in MD

Hi all, my name is chris.
picked up a 92 with the 305 & AT from a friend for $400 and it doesnt have spark. Has new cap, plugs, coil, wires, and he said he checked the fuses are wire harness and everything seems to be in order, he cant figure out why there's no spark (ok i lied im picking it up this afternoon so i actually dont have it yet). Where should i start? im thinking new dizzy all together, checking out the wires to the coil or maybe crank sensor? help me get this guy running! any advice is appreciated, im in pasadena, MD if anyone knows these cars really well and is local

Re: noob question, no spark -in MD

Welcome Aboard!

Verify that there is a 12V source to the ignition module when the key is ON. Lift the new distributor cap and check the voltage at the HEI module in the base of the distributor.

If there is 12V present, turn off the ignition and remove the small two-wire connector from the HEI module to isolate the pickup coil. Measure the resistance of the coil between the two wires. Expect to read around 500-1,500Ω. Anything outside that range is suspect. Also check the resistance of either wire to ground. There should be almost infinite resistance (over 2 megs). Any leakage to ground is also a problem.

If the pickup coil is intact, closely inspect the toothed reluctor wheel under the rotor for cracks, corrosion, or other damage.
