fixin problems to find new ones

i bought a 92 camaro rs with a 305 tbi and 5 spd. The car didn't run when I bought it and I was told it sat for a long time! I replaced the ignition and key to fix the security light and then found the fuel pump wasn't pumping! I put a new pump cause the rubber hose holding the pump had dissengrated. I also put a new filter. Took the car on it's maiden voyage and it does not want to go over 3k rpm. It runs good up to that point and then when it gets there it seems to cut out something terrible. It is definetly load under load that the problem occurs. It cleared up once on its own but went back after letting the car sit for a hour or two and now it just stays like that. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to check. The car does not throw a ses light and drives good under 3k rpm. Please help as I'm tired of my brother saying you should've bought a mustang lol

Re: fixin problems to find new ones

How is your exhaust system; cats, muffler/s? If it's falling on it's face under load at that rpm, it might be a blocked cat/s. Try removing your 02 sensor and see if it has an excessive amount of exhaust coming out the port. Also, stand at rear of car and have somebody rev it up and watch for particulates exiting the pipe/s. If that's the case, your cat is probably toast. (or plugged with rodent crap). One more thing, after a drive, check the temp difference at the cat/s and after them. If a noticeable amount of difference, it may be the cat/s.

Alright figured it out. Overlooked the basics and found a plug wire that was jumping to a wire going to the coil! The cat was my first guess too but it checked out ok. Another question I have is when i felt for pressure coming out the exaust i noticed the exaust tempature seemed really high! I couldnt leave my hand behind the exaust for more than 2 seconds. My exaust is cut by the rear axle and has no muffler just the cat though

Re: fixin problems to find new ones

So I was wrong the car is not fixed lol! today I went out and pulled the codes and got code 23 and code 45 which are faulty manifold air temp sensor and rich condition. My new question is where is the mat sensor. I thought it was the one under the air cleaner and i unplugged it but it didn't change anything! Car still runs like crap! Is this the right sensor and should unplugging it help the situation til i can afford replacing it. Please help as I have dumped a ton of money in this car and it is killing me in gas because how bad it is running and I'm sure it's going to kill the catalytic coverter if it already hasn't
