88 Iroc Z28 MAF

Hey guys!
New here. I am a hopeful new owner of a 88 iroc with 350 tpi. I know my way around a volvo and generally most vehicles but needed some thoughts. Btw I am sorry if this is in the wrong spot. Used my best decision making skills lol.

The ad says he wants it for 3500. He said no rust great body but engine needs a mass air flow sensor. Can get one pretty cheap. I am going to look at it tomorrow. From the pics it looks fantastic. Is there anything special I need to look for on these engines? I live 300 miles away and I am just visiting for a few months so I need a good car and no money pit. Thanks ahead for any help!!

Re: 88 Iroc Z28 MAF

What do you want this car to be?

Fast? (say, low 14 sec or better)
Reliable? (say, drive to work every day, or let your SO drive it alone sometimes by her/himself, or drive it only on pretty Sundays, or what)
Cool?
Nostalgic?

???

The correct answer will vary dramatically according to your goals.

Re: 88 Iroc Z28 MAF

Basically I want it to run good that will last a bit and some reserve horsepower. Passing on the highway is tough with my 5 cyl..

Basically and daily driver. Just any special maintenance items I should check

Edit: I do work for a volly fire dept so that extra power is nice but will mostly be kept on reserve

DO NOT buy a cheap MAF!!!! for any reason. the re-man ones come from china.they fail right out of the box. a NEW one is the ONLY choice. but they arent cheap.this is probably why the car is for sale in the first place.if i had to guess.some goon trying to have something for nothing.TPI cars are very nice indeed, but in expensive ...they aint

Re: 88 Iroc Z28 MAF

Was looking. I dont mind buying a new sensor for it. MAFS have been a pita since ive first had cars. So I always buy new oem.

Would 3k still be reasonable? Will ask him why he thinks it needs a maf as well.
