How Much HP? What do you recommend me?

Hi guys,

I'm almost done building my engine but before buy the missing parts
I want to know your opinion about How much HP/TQ you think I can get
with this setup and what other parts I can get to increase the HP/TQ.
I have $300 dollars more available for spend xD. (I'm from Costa Rica but I can
buy on USA the only problem is the shipping price lol).

Here is my Setup:

Block: SBC roller block (comes from L31)
Heads: vortec Heads with Alexs Parts Spring kit.
Pistons: ????(please give me an opinion, think I need 10:1 compression or higher)
Cam: CC503 / XR-276hr-12
Carb: Holley DP 750 CFM
Roller rockers: Scorpion 1.6 r
CDI: Crane Cams Hi-6 FireBall.
Distributor: Mallory Unilite Comp9000
Studs: Chromoly.
Aluminium Radiator 3 rows.
Headers: shorty headers.
Trans: 700r4 27 spline (I have to change it . I have $1300 for spend on a new trans).
Gear Ratio: 3.73.
Intake: Summit Stage 3 aluminium Air Gap (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-226019)

1.6 rockers and that camare going to be pushing it on max lift, measure carefully

Also vortecs don't gain much going over 500 lift.

Thanks for reply.

I hope the springs can handle it, anyway if not I'll have to buy another Roller rockers with 1.5 r.
Right now the max lift of my vortec heads is .550.

And really the vortec heads don't gain much over 500 lift?

The exhaust will be about .544 and intake will be about .536 if I remember correctly what I calculated earlier. MEASURE carefully for coil bind.

Yes they go fairly flat after 450 lift in stock form in fact some flow numbers show they get worse form 500 to 550.

Well, sounds a little bit bad. What do you recommend me? Port the vortec heads? Or just change the RR?

Thanks for help.

I would stick to 1.5 RRs but if you are getting machine work done leave the intake alone, add 1.6 exhaust valves and get the stud bosses machined for more lift. Keep the compression around 10:1 you don't want to go much higher. use the compression calculator on summit to figure out gasket thickness and piston relief.

Save about $100 for good push rods. Also use good ARP head bolts.

Thank for you recommendation. I hope buy the Exhaust Valves and do the heads work the next week .

And do you think with that setup I can get like 420HP to the flywheel?

With a VERY good tune and dyno session I bet you will be between 370-400

Sounds nice haha but I think I'll need the help of N2O to complete my goal.

Thanks for all dude!

This may give you an idea, it requires a bigger cam to make over 400hp on a 350 without spinning to or over 6k

The vortec heads stock flow better than the Dart S/R heads that comp used on that dyno.
Dart S/R's would be good on my 3/4 ton truck.

True the dart heads have a little less flow in the mid range and slightly less peak numbers on the intake side. On the exhaust side they are nearly identical. Both will support 400hp with the right cam. The dart heads respond much better to porting.

Yeah, but well I already bought the cam so I think the easy way to get 450 hp is using N2O or just stroke the engine but is more expensive.

BTW I wanna buy an aftermarket 700r4 from BadDog, it handles 550Hp but I don't know if is a waste of money and is better just keep my 700r4 with 27 splines. (it cost $900)
