So frustrating. Won't run with aftermarket module!

My bird runs then dies after about 5 minutes. I'm pretty sure it's the ignition control module which is the original AC Delco. The local dealer doesn't have one so I've tried 2 different after market modules. It won't even try to start. Put my original back in and it fires right up! Any one else ran into this? I will be going back to O.E. but the closest dealer that has one is 20 miles away and I can't make there today and I'm working tomorrow.
I just want to drive my car......

Not all modules are the same and an OEM module works just fine for every application. I ran a stock large cap HEI many years ago and spun the engine to 7000 rpm with no ignition problems.

A module will either work or not work. If the engine fires up then dies, it's not the module.

It may be that the pickup coil is bad. Have you verified loss of spark?

Yes, I've replaced the coil. And I went ahead and replaced the ignition control module (with AC Delco) because I wouldn't be satisfied until I did. And of course it still dies after about 10 minutes. Starts right up and runs great but then after about 5 minutes the idle starts to fluctuate between 800 and 1100 RPMs. It's a very consistent fluctuation, but revs up like normal. Then it just dies. It will not restart after it dies. Doesn't even try. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: So frustrating. Won't run with aftermarket module!

There's an update on this. It was a bad fuel injector. It was shorting out after it ran a few minutes. But I got SCREWED by the shop!! I think they f---ed up my motor but won't admit to it! They charged me $1400 (one thousand four hundred) and I had to take it back to them because it didn't run right. It still doesn't run right and now they say, while its been in their possession, I need a new motor. I now have a effing rod knocking!! I DID NOT have a rod knock before. I even dove it home and back to them. I'm going to make a new thread on this because I need to explore my options and get some experienced opinions on how to proceed.
