Alrighty 84 Camaro Berlinetta stock 305 auto transmission only thing added is headers... and exhaust is dropped off just under/between front seats ,(from previous owner)..
Turn the key car hits once or twice then hear the starter spinning with no contact it sounds but will randomly grab and then spin again . It does start however its rarely and takes some time until it grabs .. any ideas??

Even though I hear it spin like its connected to nothing? Or you think its internally gears shot. I was hoping flywheel not missing teeth even though it runs fine

 

Take the access cover off and check the flywheel?

 

The Bendix (one way clutch inside it) is shot

Swap it out
