eectric fuel pump issue

I have the summit brand electric fuel pump 110gph. the issue im having is that when I drive the pump quits making noise and fuel pressure drops, but the idiot light I have installed stays on. if I mess with the switch off on off on etc it finally kicks on. is my pump on its last leg? and would it be worth going back to a block mount fuel pump?

what circuit is the idiot light on?
are you using a relay ?
checked it's operation ?
will the pump run if you hotwire it direct to the battery ?
