Should i ditch my EGR system?
I been reading up on this system lately, and all the problems it could create. My IROC has had several other items removed, and is far from being stock. I dont have any emmision tests where i live, and heck it is now over 25 years old so it only gets a safety inspection!
I could get a block-off plate or even make one. I do my own chips so i can disable it in the PROM so i dont get any codes. I was just wondering if many folks of gotten rid of their EGR.

Go for it. The ones that don't get emission tested, usually have them gone.

Re: Should i ditch my EGR system?
The only purpose of it is to lower emissions. Most cars will run just fine without it. My race car doesn't use an EGR
and my Ford diesel has had the EGR system removed which means no more diesel soot gumming up the intake and valves.
If you can remove or bypass the EGR without needing emission testing then go for it.

Yea, sounds like a good thing to do. My EGR system has the one with a temp switch built in, so just one more thing to go wrong. I will get a block off plate ordered, and find some time to do this little project.

Re: Should i ditch my EGR system?
Well today i finally had some time to pull my EGR system. I have the block off plate. I pulled it without taking the runners off, just the plenum. It was a little tricky, but i got it and the solenoid removed. I am just wondering about that EGR temp switch. I broke the single-wire terminal to the switch. Eventually i unscrewed the switch, to get to the EGR bolt. The switch came out easy. Then there is a screwed in terminal for the wire connection, but how the heck do you pull that terminal off, without breaking it? The black wire seems to go towards the back of the motor, and i didnt see any other disconnect. Usually folks just leave the EGR on the manifold, and so it stays with the intake when you pull it. (which i have done before). but what to do with that switch wire? I cant recall how it comes off. I will just tape off the end of the switch wire.

There is a connector for the EGR temp switch around the coil area or behind it.
