smokes at start up...bad!
hi , i recently got a 1985 Z/28 305 4 bbl stock...at start up when cold & the chock comes on it smokes real bad!! white- grey smoke ...i can pollute the whole street ...it runs fine..doesn't run rough..choke stays on then i give gas and the choke comes off and idles fine and smooth...clear oil..clear prestone...the car just runs fine except that cloud of smoke at start up ,,then as it runs the exhaust smoke is gone and back to normal...bad gas?? the only thing i can think of is that i put some of that grape smell stuff in the tank for the exhaust fumes since it is stock but has no cat...can that be it? it was added with a full tank of gas...i thougt maybe a head gasket?? but it doesn't mix prestone/gas...runs great and has the regular power it should..any ideas would be appreciated...thanks in advance.

It's not bad gas or head gasket. What you have is an inherent problem with the 305's. VALVE STEM OIL SEALS .
It's about a 2 hour job, good parts will run you around $50., plus what ever level of new Valve Cover Gasket'$ you choose.
If you wanted to make money to pay for repair expensives...since you live in Montreal, charge your neighbors for Misquito Control. They pay you 5 bucks for everytime you start the Camaro up.

Valve seals are bad and maybe oil return blockages. Do a search here "valve seals"and read. You will find great advice, and you may find you'll need more tools or a pro to fix this common problem. It's all here, just look. Or maybe you need a new, more powerful engine to fix this sick old engine problem you have been living with for far too long. Happy to help if your really at a loss, but only to a point
