car wont start

car wont start

I have a 1988 camaro V6 2.8L, problem is it wont start, i replaced the fuel pump first ran for about a month no problem then didnt want to start agian, so i had to replace the relay, worked for about 2 months good then same problem didnt start. banged on the gas tank with a rubber mallet did the trick worked for about 3 months until it happened agian. which i banged on the gas tank again and started working for 1 day, now it wont start i can hear the fuel pump turn on when i turn the key, checked fuel filter not clogged, checked relay for continuity it works good. Dont know what to do help please!

Welcome Aboard!

It would be good to test the fuel pressure before banging on the tank any further. If you do not have a pressure gauge you can "borrow/rent" one from some of the chain parts stores.

well there was a wire going up to the gas tank,, cleaned the plug out and put it in and seemed to work, but now when i drive it it turns off when i drive randomly. has to be eletrical problem, i can hear the pump turn on... any suggestion?

Grab a piece of sheet metal, drill a few holes, mount a few LEDs and you’re good-2-go.

You can use LEDs with built-in resistors so they’re ready to use with 12 volts.

Wire A — Connect to pin A of the pump relay.

Wire D — Connect to pin D of the pump relay.

Wire E — Connect to pin E of the pump relay.

Wire P — Connect at the pump.

Mount the panel in the cockpit.

Double-sided tape will work because it’s a temporary panel.

Now, when you’re driving and the engine cuts out, you merely have to glance at the panel to see where the problem is.
