rough idle and surging at cruising
hey everyone, i was hoping i'd be able to get some insight on a problem that i just came home to. i have a 87 camaro with a stock 305 and 700r4. i did an edelbrock 1406 carb, intake, distributor, and some headman headers, and a few other things, but stock otherwise. I had it running awesome (changed springs and metering rods and set timing to 10* at idle)...anyways i went on vacation for a week (the car stays outside covered and there has been some rain) when i came home i took the car out and i want to say it was running fairly good but it did backfire a few times at cruising speeds 40-60. today it is running like crap, at first the idle seemed low but at a stop light in gear it runs real rough, like a misfire, and then directly off idle it's like it comes out of it but the rpms are surging between like 11 and 1500(estimate), and then at cruising speed it surges until you get on it just a little bit more and that is where it comes out of it and drives normal. i'm a little nervous to change settings etc. on account of how good i had it and everything (this was since i did the headers like 3 months ago)...I did put a can of seafoam in the gas just thinking maybe there was moisture in the tank but it's still running like crap. any insight would be greatly appreciated! I should say that I checked my idle circuit screws and also checked my timing and they were both on, also I had to turn the idle up a little bit because it is idling so rough.
