Ok so picked up an 86 Camaro. It had a 305 with a tbi intake and a edelbrock 1405 carb sitting on top. I pulled the heads to get checked for cracks or leaks and theyre good to go.

Im not looking to build a high performance engine. This is a simple rebuild all I want is a dependable new engine that will get the car up and down the road for the next 2 or 3 years while I rebuild the rest of the car and eventual engine swap.

So with that said I will be running..

305 NON roller block getting bored .030 over.
-601 casting heads just checked and resurfaced
edelbrock performer intake
edelbrock 1405 600cfm carb

Stock the engine had dished pistons. Considering spending the extra coin on flat tops. ( all the rebuild kits come with dished it seems). Not sure how high this would make the CR tho.


Needing help on a cam selection. Not sure what the stock cam numbers are. I havnt jacked the rear end up yet to see whats in the car now but I will probly run a 3.42 rear end and the stock 700r4 trans.

 

Im thinking maybe the comp cams xe262H perhaps?

Ooops. sorry. see that the heads have been worked on, so my original reply does no good since the block is in the shop as well.
