There are springs that are made to work without them. If you have those, then you don't need them.
OTOH if you're talking about just taking them out of your stock springs, that's a different matter. Stock springs are limp-membered enough already without being further weakened by removing something that stabilizes them.
Not sure how they could ever be "kind of a pain"; they mostly just hang out in the middle of the springs under the valve covers untouched for a hundred thousand miles or whatever. Pretty much out of sight out of mind.

I should've specified that im in the process of replacing my valve stem seals. the dampers don't let my spring compressor get a good hold of the spring. i'll leave them as is then. thanks for the reply
