tbi or carb

So I have a 88 bird that im working on right now. according to the vin its originally a 305 car. the guy i got it from says it has a 350 in it. well the 350 is trashed, water in crankcase and been sitting in there who know how long. So i ended up with a 305 that I got, I know going to a 305 to a 350 is a downgrade but the 305 was basically free and i just want to get my firebird running. So the 305 had an electronic quadrajet 4 barrell, no distributor. the 350 currently in the car has tbi. all looks there but under dash wiring and engine bay wiring is a mess. I never had motor fired up so i dont even know if the tbi system is even functioning correctly. Im trying to get this thing running on a budget so im going to reseal the 305, repaint, timing chain water pump, etc. Im just stuck on if i should just swap over the intake from the 350 and put it on my 305 and run the tbi, but risk the wiring being all screwed up, or running the carb and buying an hei dizzy and just get rid of the wiring nightmare. Right now im leaning toward keeping the tbi system but upon looking at the intakes, the mounting holes on the 350 tbi intakes middle holes are verticle, and the front and rear holes are angled. The intake on the 305s holes are all angled. I read i can drill the middle holes on the tbi intake to an angle and use some kind of angled washer to make it work. Im thinking i should just get rid of the wires and sensors and run it carbed. if i run carbed the quadrajet i have is electronic, ecm controlled. is there any way to run these electronic carbs while not being hooked to ecu? or am i just going to have to get a mechanical carb? new to gm products so im learning along the way.
