After 10+ Years I am finally putting my 400 back together.
I don't have a estimating software. Can someone run these specs for me.

Crower Monarch cam 09101, 110 deg, .453 lift @.050

750 Speed Demon carb
Thanks

Re: HP Estimate
What pistons and chambers on the cylinder heads? You could potentially make a lot of power provided you have those two in the right spot assuming a cam change is in order.

Re: HP Estimate
I thought the same thing, about the duration and lift. When I called crower they couldn't tell me anything about the cam. I found the number online, and crowers website said its an old grind???? I know it was made in about 1972, that is when my Dad pulled the motor this cam was in. He said it as extremely radical, for the 350 it was in. He drag raced all through the 60's and 70's. I have a friend who still has crower cam books from the 70's and this cam is not in them. But the 290 cam is .500 and and the 310 is .525. So I figured it would be somewhere between, not .453! I was guessing 400HP. So it seems like I am in the ball park. Now once its back together. We will see how long the stock rear holds together. LOL
BTW, Flat tops W 4 valve reliefs, and 64CC

Re: HP Estimate
A cam with less lift than modern STOCK cams, is not "radical". Mighta been in 1972; but that was over 40 yrs ago. (about the time I started seriously doing this hobby) As a species, we've moved on since then.
Sound sto me like a seriously mismatched combo. Whatever anybody here tells you, as well as whatever you think, it'll do less than that. Sorry to say, doesn't look anywhere close to "competitive" to me.
With those "rebuilder" flat tops and 64cc heads, your compression will be in the mid 9s somewhere. Could be as high as 9¾:1 but I doubt it. Back about only 25 or 30 yrs ago, I built a very similar combo. Ended up with a Comp XE274 in it. It ran like a scalded dog. People used to say it sounded "angry", like it wanted to jump up outta there and kill something. I REALLY liked it, at least, until a coupla lobes went flat. I HIGHLY recommend a cam somewhere along those lines. The XE274, or maybe the Lunati Voodoo that's about 227°/234° or whatever it is. Prolly make at least 100 more HP than that old stuff will. Then all you gotta worry about is exhaust. A GOOD QUALITY set of headers, ceramic coated, a high-flow cat, and a 3" cat-back, will work wonders. My favorite cat-back is the Hooker but there are others that other people like too, don't think you can go too far wrong with any of em. Just, avoid "universal" headers, and of course, the cheeeeeeeeeeepest thing that it's not illegal to print the word "headers" on the box. Few things in life SUCK worse than crappy headers.
