Camshaft bearing replacement?
Camshaft bearing replacement?
Hi, I'm currently changing my camshaft in my 1990 305ci camaro. When removing the old can shaft the front bearing is worn down to the bronze, I was wondering if it's possible to change the bearings while the engine is still in the car?
Need to check the other 4 bearings for wear, but so far only the front is massively worn, understandable seems it has the most load.

It's very difficult but not impossible. The rear one you can't do without removing the transmission.
It's better to strip the engine down. You never know how much contamination got into the oil gallery hole under the bearing which is probably why it's worn out.

Re: Camshaft bearing replacement?
If the front is warn the others probably are too. I would pull the motor and do them all. I would see if you could barrow a driver from the auto part store to install them with so you don't have to buy it. Might be a good time to get a gasket kit, pull the pan and check the other bearings. Your motor oils form the top down so the cam gets oil first then the mains for the crank.
