90 Firebird 305 running rich
I'm new to this forum but I'm at a loss and I figured this would be the best place to get some help. Long story short I tore the motor down to the block and put all new gaskets in, however my dumbass marked the distributor wrong so when I reinstalled it I know it was wrong. Got it back together and it ran rich then as luck would have it the fuel pump went out. I got a new fuel pump in it and its still running rich. It got up to operating temp and now it wont start at all, it'll crank and act like it wants to fire but won't. I've been told it could be the ignition control module, I set the timing the best I could but I practically winged it. Its set at 0 on the crank and I put the distributor rotor facing cylinder #1, I haven't used a timing light or did the EST disconnect but I haven't had the car running half decent enough to where I can get that far. Any help would greatly be appreciated, Ive been running through these forums trying to get ideas but finally decided to just join and get some help.

If you turned your motor to 0 degrees top dead center, dropped the distributor in facing number one cylinder, and it won't start. See if there is noise coming out of the throttle body. If there is, turn by hand back to zero degrees tdc. And pull distributor and aim your rotor at the number 6 cylinder. Because you didn't mark anything you could be 180 out.

^ What he said. To find the compression stroke pull the number one plug and put your finger over the hole then turn the engine by hand or have a buddy do it. Either way when you feel the pressure you are on the compression stroke then bringing it up to 0 on the timing strip should be TDC assuming your timing strip is accurate....
