new to forum, no power to fuel pump.

Ok new to the forum so hi everybody lol i just aquired a 1990 firedbird formula 5 liter 305 tbi, brand new fuel pump, new fuel pump relay, still no power to the fuel pump. Fuel pump fuse under the hood is good, if i pour fuel into the throttle body she'll fire right up. Im kind of stumped at this point as im not too familiar with the F bodies, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone!

Ok so quick update, after busting out the test light it would appear im not getting power to the pump relay, if im not mistaken doesn't the relay get power via an orange wire from the ECM? Is it possible my ECM has crapped out?

Replaced oil pressure switch because oil pressure gauge was pegging out with key in the on position but didn't change anything. Looking more towards ECM now.

Re: new to forum, no power to fuel pump.

Ok so quick update, if i run 12v to the pump and prime the lines while turning the engine over she fires right up abd will stay running even after i disconnect the hot wire to the pump, meaning that the pump is recieving proper power supply from the oil pressure switch, if i turn it off it fails to give power to the pump again, this pretty much points directly to the ecm being bad and failing to give power to the pump relay on initial start correct? Any help here guys?

Re: new to forum, no power to fuel pump.

Ok I got the problem fixed, it turned out to be bad wiring in the fuse socket for the fuel pump fuse and also the constant hot wire going from the battery to the little hot junction next to the battery(mounted next to the core support) was bad thanks to a previous owner trying to splice an amp wire into it, fixed those 2 small wiring issues and she runs like a top. Special thanks to all the people on this forum who were absolutely no help at all, admins included, after waiting a week and not a single reply, bump, or anything. Hopefully my comments on this thread will help people in the future on this forum and anyone else who simply googles this problem and stumbles upon this thread. I've been a long time members of the Jeepz forum, Ford truck enthusiasts forum, various other car forums, and never been completely skunked on a thread like this one. I've since moved to the Pontiac owners forum and got alot of help from the admins and members there that helped me hunt down the break in my wiring and eliminate other issues. Have a nice day everyone.

I know its hard to not take it personal when no one answers you question , but in most instances it's not so much a "skunked" or "snob" thing as it is that wiring problems can be so intricate to diagnose , especially when you run into previous owner hack work like you found with the past radio installations . To be honest , If i see a question with zero replies , I do try to come up with some kind of answer , but I must have missed your thread . Many times , not being exactly sure of an answer , I wait to see if anyone else is gonna answer so I don't fill the guy's thread with useless replies .

Re: new to forum, no power to fuel pump.

Hello! I certainly appreciate your posts in this thread. Glad you were able to fix your issue. I am having a similar issue on my project bird. She's an 88 automatic (sigh, i know) 2.8L V6. My fuel pump is not receiving power. I think we've narrowed it down to a bad cable but before I get into that web of wiring I am going to check the fuse socket first! The 10 fuse works fine so maybe the problem is in the socket. Thanks!
