EFI on a carb'd motor???? Help!
EFI on a carb'd motor???? Help!
I bought a 87 firebird 305. I know there have been mods on it, old chrome on the engine, painted block, disk brakes in the rear and it ran. So I picked it up, been going through it, removed all the AIR systems, hoses, extra vacuum lines, AC and junk.
then replaced the intake with an Edelbrock polished, and a E performer carb. with a bunch of chrome and a repaint of the block. Im putting this together, fired it up, all went really well. went to adjust the timing and realized,, there is NO vacuum advance. it looks like it is an EFI distributor, 2 connectors going into it with 4 pins over to a 4 pin dual coil. can somebody take 2 seconds and tell me what I have here? should I leave it as is or change it out for a vac advan setup. and if so what else needs to be changed.
thanks!

Sounds like a computer controlled distributor - since it sounds like you've gotten rid of most everything else that feeds the computer signals I'd just swap it out for an HEI with a vacuum advance can - and then you can also tune it to your engine's needs.

Yes, Bwiencek is right.
You removed the computer controlled carb (most likely) and your current distributor is electronic. It WILL not run right without the CC Carb attached to it.
Your best bet is to either put the CC Qjet back on and hook up the O2 and other sensors or get rid of the electronic distributor and go old school.
