Exhaust Manifolds

Hey all,

I'm about to put my rebuilt 305 back in the camaro. I just cleaned up the stock exhaust manifolds and put them on. However, I noticed that it's going to be a tight fit trying to reach the motor mounts and move the engine aound when putting the motor in the car. However, it also looks like its going to be difficult to reach all of the manifold bolts if I install the manifolds with the engine in the car. So what have you guys done? I tried doing a search, but most stuff that came up was about aftermarket headers, not the stock manifolds. Thanks!

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

I put mine back in with the stock manifolds fully attached. It will always be a pain trying to get the motor mounts to line up, but I don't think the manifolds really got in the way with mine.

EDIT: I should also note that my car was up on jack stands so I was able to access the motor mounts fairly easily from underneath. If you don't have the car raised up you may have more clearance problems than I had.

it is WAY easier to get the engine in with the manifolds off. as for getting the manifolds on, put the bolts in them first .then slide them into position and youre home

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

I was able to remove and replace manifolds with the engine in the car, however the passenger side was a PITA and had to remove many parts, including coolant lines, and even then I had to use lots of different sockets and wrenches to get to the rear bolts
