So I was going to build a 355 for my Camaro, got most of the parts, short block assembled, heads built etc. Life got in the way, that project is on hold for the time being. Heads are vortec's, w/ new beefy springs and 1.6 aluminum full rollers. 2.02/1.6 valves, light port job. Cam is an LT4 Hot cam. RPM Air Gap intake (for vortec heads).

I have an 85 k10 work truck that has a very 'tired' old 305. Someone carbed it sometime in the past. It leaks oil from basically everywhere around the pan, despite having a new gasket, and new 2pc rear main seal. This is an issue as I don't really want to throw a piece of cardboard under my truck every time I pull up to a customers house. The thing has no horsepower, it has a 4wd 700r4 and doesn't have enough power to keep it in 4th gear unless she's going downhill.

So I need to do something about the motor in the truck, here are my options as I see them, need opinions on what I should do.

1. Put the heads/cam on the 305. I'm assuming that with the smaller displacement the CR would stay 9.5 or lower, which should be manageable for the stock HEI, not really sure what pistons are in the 305. Would I have clearance issues with the 2.02/1.6 and that big cam? Cam is probably too much for the 305, alternatives? I'd still have to fix the oil leaking problem.

2. Buy a different 350, carb it and throw it in the truck. have to be at least 225hp, so vortec or L98 I'm assuming. Have to be able to carb it, no computers.

Looking for a fast and easy fix, suggestions/opinions very welcome, thanks guys. Need to get this thing back on the road, sick of using a minivan as a work truck.
