x24 Vortec timing Cover on 2pc RMS 400 motor

Hi Guys,

One of the latest gremlins I've found I want to eliminate before all my motor and car go back together is the timing cover for the motor.
I'm doing a x24 conversion and bought the plastic vortec timing cover to cut down on costs.
I had heard this won't fit exactly and can leak but a good bead of sealant will fix that.

What I didn't know is someone mentioned the 2pcRMS motors need the timing cover to match - Is this fact or fiction?

I was under the assumption the 2pc RMS only affected the *** end of the motor and the sump.

Will I have a problem with this, or is it a non-issue?

No, that is just not true.

The timing cover for a gen 1 small block will fit 1955 to 1995 SBC engines. No diff in the cover for a 2 or 1 pc RMS engine.

Vortec cover has built in dowels for the block. Sbc non vortec blocks have dowels. So have to remove the block dowels or drill out the plastic timing cover dowels. Thats what i did i drilled the vortec cover.

Just use Rightstuff around alll of it and the dowels. It will seal good

Sounds like a plan.
Thanks for that.
Just received my AVT-852 cable today, so I'm gonna make a benchtest cable with one of the 0411 pigtails and start looking into the tuning side, or at least the config for my setup.
