What was wrong with this PSP, I don't understand....

Somebody with a better trained eye please look at these and tell me what you think might have been wrong. Replaced my PSP with a reman last week, and thought I'd do a post mortem on my old one. It was leaking, looked like from the front, but I can't see anything wrong. The main seal looks ok, and I think it was Sofa who said they usually leak because the tank is bent, but I don't see any evidence of that yet, and I used it for months after a gear box change with no leaks. Didn't start leaking til this past Feb. Help! I'll post pics...

The orange gasket on the 1" high pressure line bolt was a little stiff, but I don't think I saw leaking from that area.

I also don't see what is so tricky about assembling the pump and tank, and that if you don't do it just right the entire known universe will explode (so says Autozone.com). I basically took off three bolts, very lightly tapped it with a hammer and it slid right off.

I've found that it is the front shaft seal that starts to leak. I've replaced a few with the pump unbolted from the engine but still connected to the lines (less of a mess).

I've also done others that were torn down to the point that you did yours and replaced all of the seals. I don't believe I've ever had to replace hard parts.

You could be right. I'm thinking of getting the $13.99 rebuild kit and rebuilding it, then taking the reman back for a refund. honestly, I'm not overly thrilled with it anyway. When you make a sharp turn--stop sign or something--there is a very slight buzz in the steering wheel. I did everything I could t purge the air, but it persists. It's very very slight, but since it's my car I do notice it. The old one didn't do that, it just leaked.....

....just finished total dis-assembly. Pretty sure you were right about the shaft seal. Already pulled all the seals and ordered the rebuild kit, gonna put my original back on and pocket the $30ish difference when I return the reman. Not sure I was too confident in it anyway.
