Question on testing TPS

i was testing my TPS to try and find the source of my delayed throttle response. the TPS actually tested good,

According to my voltmeter:

.53 closed throttle

4.35 Wide open

the volts rose and fell in a linear fashion but when i quickly opened the throttle, it actually briefly reads "OL", for a split second before reverting back to reading voltage.

could that be an issue with the TPS or the voltmeter? what would cause it to read OL?

Re: Question on testing TPS

Check it on ohms with the plug disconnected, instead of volts.

In that configuration, OL = the brush inside it, lost contact... aka, it's bad.

When the ECM sees that it doesn't know what to do.

Not saying that's "The Problem", but it's definitely not helping you out any.

OL in the volts mode probably happens when you cross from the 1.999V range to the 19.99V range. (when it goes from 1.999 and has to switch to 02.00)

Re: Question on testing TPS

very helpful, thank you. i had 2 questions though i didn't quite get.

1) why would i test with ohms?
2) why would OL occur when crossing over to 2 volts? (fyi it displayed OL across the entire range, not just around 2 volts. but i do like your theory about the brushes losing contact)
