distributor pickup coil replacement 350
distributor pickup coil replacement 350
89 firebird v8 350, coil separate from cap, no spark
I tested the ohms between the two connectors on the pickup coil and its shorted, no resistance. I read that its supposed to be 500-1500 ohms, not zero, so I ordered a delphi pickup coil from napa (~$20 or a bit less at Rock Auto for Standard brand, neither Advanced nor Autozone carry just the pickup coil).
Is it a bad idea to try a puller to pull of the reluctor from the top without removing the distrib?
or
Does it turn out to be safer to remove distributor from engine, then tap out the gear roll pin, and slide the shaft out to install the new coil?
or did I miss something else?
Thanks.

Don't forget to mark the distributor body and rotor position before ya take it apart , and don't turn the engine till it's back in aligned with the marks you made before taking it out .
Good Luck ...

When the distributor shaft hangs up due to varnish on it. Use some carb cleaner gum cutter on it. Such as Berkible 2+2 (I know that isn't spelled correctly...).
