Does color on valvespring signify anything?
Just took my valve covers off...462624 "Hencho Mexico" heads, noticed my valve springs have a brown stripe on them. I thought I read somewhere that brown stripe signified "Z28" springs. I bought these heads as crate motor take offs and they are basically new / unused. Any ideas? I'm going to be running an XE 256 cam, not sure if I have to change springs. If I do, I can pitch the rotators and use std retainers on all 16 springs right?

I've heard that, I've also read about them having orange stripes. If the heads are from Mexico I doubt the springs are true 'Z28 springs' but rather knock-offs.

Re: Does color on valvespring signify anything?
Color doesn't mean anything. The spring rate needs to match the camshaft recommendation. Stock springs are designed for stock camshafts unless a replacement cam is close to stock specs. The only way to know how good the springs are is to test the spring rate. They need to exert a specific pressure at a specific compressed height.
The stock springs will be fine with the XE256 cam
