MAF fail.... No codes????

Car: 1986 Trans AM WS6
Engine: 383 Vortec TPI, PUTS SMILES ON FACE
Transmission: PATC LVL 3 Raptor Transmission
Axle/Gears: 3.27 POSI 9 BOLT
MAF fail.... No codes????
Can a maf fail and not throw a code?
I have a intermittent cut out but runs great when maf is unplugged and throws no codes when its plugged in.
Its a Bosch maf reman I believe..
Just orders a wells. So hope it will fix it
