I can see that one of the next projects on my '86 IROC needs to be getting the fuel lines and fuel pump lined out correctly. The previous owner swapped the car from TPI to carburated. While he installed an electric fuel pump near the fuel tank, he didn't use a return style fuel pressure regulator, or even a regulator as far as that goes; he simply capped off the return line. So I'm going have to order a return style pressure regulator that allows the fuel to circulate and help prevent any vapor lock issues. Any tips or pointers for this project are welcome.
EDIT: I just got done ordering a return style fuel pressure regulator and a good inline gauge to get the fuel system plumbed correctly.

This is what I did with mine.
255LPH wahlboro in-tank electric pump.
Factory fuel lines for carbed car.
Mallory 4307m Return style regulator.
An fittings, filter and hoses to mate to my CC Qjet.
The feed line is the larger -8An fitting going to the black in-line filter prior to entering the regulator. The -6an line off the bottom of the filter is my return line. The other -6an line going sideways on the picture is tothe carb.

Very nice set up you have there. The external pump they used on my car seems to be doing fine, the only thing I'm doing is adding the return style regulator and using the stock return line that came with the car. I've checked it for any obstructions and it's free flow back into the tank, so I should be good to go after adding the new regulator to the system. For now I plan on using simple rubber fuel hoses on my car; I may upgrade at some point down the road after my engine swap is complete.

The UPS Godz smiled upon me today, the pump impeller for the pool and the IROC parts came in today; had to get the pool going first, after 6 days with no pump I was going to be chasing tadpoles pretty soon. I then jumped on the fuel system, I installed and plumbed the regulator/gauge and set the pressure for 5 PSI. I even plumbed the return line in clear line to get a visual on how much fuel was flowing back to the tank; it's a good slow flow back to the tank that should keep fresh cool fuel circulating in the lines. Of course I replaced the clear hose with rubber fuel hose after checking the flow. After a good leak check, I took it for a spin that was long enough to get a good heat soak out of if I stopped for a while and it seems to have taken care of the vapor lock issues that were starting to show.
Here are the parts that I used for the project..............
I mounted the regulator on the fender well as far from the engine heat as possible................
