Headlight motor guts swap instructional

Hello all,

Had a weird set of circumstances that lead to my drivers side headlight motor (LH) actually melting down. The harness was resting against the metal edge in front of the motor and shorted, so when I went out in the morning I found the plastic manual lift cap melted down against the top of the motor. What I ended up doing was using a spare damaged passenger side (RH) unit to donate the motor/electrical components to my LH lift assembly. the actual motor part is universal so it fits either side.

as you can see, everything plastic was fused into a solid clump.

I removed the two screws and pried the remains out. I did the same on the donor motor assembly, only I had to make sure I didn't drop the contact springs. After cleaning the sludge out of the LH headlight motor base housing I installed the good contact housing/harness. (i know the gasket looks ugly, but it was in good shape other than the black gunk so I reused it anyway)

Then i used the paperclip trick to pull the contacts back into place and installed the RH donor motor into the LH motor base, and screwed it back together. done and good to go!

not sure if anyone gives a crap, but figured I'd share on the off chance it saves someone spending $100+ on a new unit when they might have the parts to repair it on hand as I did.

Well, I should have realized that wouldn't be the end of it... nothing melts down like that without repercussions. After reinstalling the assembly I still only got my passenger side light to lift. I pulled the module and found a nice hole melted in the side of my relay

so while the relay continued to work for the passenger side the one wire on the drivers side was incinerated.

I was able to half assed repair it so I can order another relay and still have lights.. its ugly but now both lights are lifting and dropping as they should.

again, not sure if anyone cares but i figured I'd share anyway.
