Blue valve covers?

When I bought the car, I was told that it had a 350. I looked up the car, and only a 305 is stock.

But the thing that gets me is, it has blue valve covers. Like ford blue. Is this stock? Or maybe is the motor out of another car/truck?

How can I find out what motor it has and if it is stock or not?

Re: Blue valve covers?

Look for your rpo codes and that will tell you what it was born with. Check the casting number on the back of the block and that will tell you what block you have. You can pull a valve cover and the casting number will tell you what heads you have. As far as the blue valve covers, I guess the previous owner wanted blue valve covers so he sprayed them blue.

Re: Blue valve covers?

Either he bought blue valve covers or he painted them himself, they won't tell you anything about what block is in it. As the others said, the casting number on the block is the best bet at knowing what size motor you have.

Re: Blue valve covers?

It's a valve cover... It comes off, can be swapped out, replaced, painted, etc. No they are not blue stock.

Chevy did use a light blue engine color in the late 70's though.
