Good Cam/Valvetrain Combo's
I'm gonna be rebuilding the engine in my beast soon, and want to know of some good cam/valvetrain combo's that you you guy's know of or have tried.
I want something with medium HP and torque (400 HP + 400 LB.FT. Torque or more). I got an all stock L98 and a TPI.
Any good tips?

The camshaft is the wrong place to start in planning a
high performance build up. If you want 400hp, find a 400hp cylinder head, add a 400hp induction system and a 400hp exhaust system. When you have all that, call three cam companies' tech line and get their recomendations based on what you've got (heads, induction, exhaust) not what you'll be getting later.
They know their product best and welcome your inquiry.

Can ya get a barrel o' beer from a bucket o' water.
The Stock TPI system is just that --- stock. Until you change things it will put out the close to same power. The L-98 alumium
corvette heads are a great starting point. Stock, they flow pretty modestly, but once properly ported with 2.00 x 1.56 valves they will have all the flow nessessary. The stock TPI intake and runners
are too small and the tuned length is long to promote low end torque at the expence of top end power. There are many replacement runners that will do the job ,like SLP's TPIS mini ram
or Accel's setup. Look to SLP or simular for headers and exhaust.
Build the motor for around 10.5 cr with the alumium heads.
You will also need a fuel/ spark Map that gives the motor what it needs to work right ( eprom, injectors, fuel pump and regulator)
After all this is planned out you can select a cam that is designed for the induction system you picked and suites your car/driving style.
Check out the TPIS web sight to get some ideas.
The only other way to get 400hp out of a stock TPI motor is
Supercharging or Nitrous oxide injection
Think of the cam as the conductor of an orchaestra. If you don't have the right instruments. The song ain't gona be there reguardless of how the conductor flaps his arms.
