HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! I changed my metering rods and hanger! :)

I changed them from "CH" rods and an "N" hanger, to "DR" rods and a "G" hanger. All I can say is WOW!. I know it feels better but do y'all think it will mean much in the quarter mile? It fries the tires off a straight punch now, whereas before it would just chirp them. BTW, I also took some of the tension off my air flap over the secondaries so they open up faster. I highly reccomend anyone with an LG4 doing this. I only paid $10.50 for the rods and the hanger. I also ditched my stock 2 1/4" pipe from the cat back with the 2 stupid little mufflers, to a catback from an 86 305 TPI Trans Am. It is 2 1/2 inch dia. Do yall think all of this well get me a couple tenths??? THX

Oh yeah, 2/10 for sure!

It is always amazing to hear people's reactions to this simple mod

It really does make a difference that must be seen to be appreciated.

Sitting Bull,

Thanks for the input. I really hope I can get 2/10 out of the little beast. Other than that mod, it is an all stock LG4 w/ 3.73's and a hollowed cat. So, I'm pretty happy with the times the car is running considering what ive done to it. THX again

Here's another good mod: Get a 305 HO dual snorkle aircleaner.

I was just reading on the Hot Rod site tonight how they mildly hopped-up an 82 Camaro with an LG4. The dual snorkle aircleaner knocked a full 1/4 second off their ET

GM isn't making them any longer but they show up on the Classifieds board quite regularly.

But seeing as you have a TransAm, I don't know if the aircleaner will fit under your hood

Try a B hanger with those DRs for kicks. It's only five bucks or so from Summit. I've done the secondary metering rod swap (first with a G hanger and AH rods, then with a B and DRs), the AV tension, the dual snorkel and KN filter. Nice mods. Like Sitting Bull, I don't believe the HO snorkel will fit your car.

Why wouldnt it? It is very similar to the one that the lg4 had to start with except it has a hose coming from both sides of the air cleaner.

Didnt the 1984 L-69 Trans Am come with the dual snorkel air cleaner? A while back, my friend used to have an 84 H.O. T/A and i could have swore it had one. Just wondering

Well, I'm just thinking of how the Firebird's nose is so much pointier than a Camaro's. It is in that area that the funnels fit and I don't know if they would function in that small a space.

In my next generation magazine by year one they list it as coming on camaros and firebirds from 83-87 with the l69.

Guys, I have an 83 TA with the dual snorkel air cleaner and the COOL thing is that you can still use your original lid that takes air in from the hood! I'll post a photo if anybody wants to see it.

From what I've read, the only 3rd gen TA to get the dual snorkel was the 85 HO cars. I've never seen an 85 L69 equipped TA so I can't verify that. I do know that 83 and 84 L69's did not come with the dual snorkel setup.

That is probably because of the cowl.

couldn't you just use that aircleaner and then run the tubing down to make a bottom-feeder ram-air setup?

Glad to hear about your success. It's quite a change to take a QJet from an emissions/fuel economy oriented calibration to a performance calibration. Yes, you'll pick up those 2 tenths in the first 200 feet of track. Might get a bit of MPH out of it, too.

Colin- yes, you could.
