Gasket thickness.

Does anyone know the compressed gasket thickness for a standard Detroit head gasket [iron heads]. I can't get any info from the manufacturer.

The uncompressed thickness is 0.06". I am guessing it would only compress down to like 0.05"??

The Fel Pro gasket compressed thickness is 0.04" but I dunno what the uncompressed number is.

there are several differant types, and there for differant tthicknesses of gaskets. the common fel pro composition gasket is .039. there are some shim type gaskets that would go around .018. you'd really need to post a P/N to get an exact compressed thickness.

The only info with the set describes it as a full engine set number 32501 CS. Mean anything to anyone?

Do these composition head gaskets generally squash down to 1/2, 3/4, 1/3 their original size or what?

If it's 0.060" unused, am I likely to see it compress down to 50 40 or 30 thou? In the absence of any real data, I'll just have to guess it!

i doubt if they compress much at all, maybe .002 or so. if they compressed very much they would displace a lot of material and risk a tear or breaking the seal. i don't really know for sure though what they do compress. you might want to try sending an e mail to them through their web sites.
