engine rough at wide open throttle

hi guys.
i have an 87 camaro, with a 350 ncc rochester carb, basically stock 350 (82) and i just found a problem:
going at about 90km/h on 5th. gear i've decided to pass some slow traffic with a quick acceleration, without downshifting, and the speed was increasing steady and it felt good but...
as i hit wide open throttle, the engine became rough like hell and i felt like the engine was coughing thru the carb.
i suspect my carb but i'm not sure exactly.
if you guys had this before...could you please give me some advise?
thanks to all and happy holidays.
Fernando.

MIG,

What kind of RPM were you running under heavy load?

Dear Vader, the engine was at around 3000 rpm.
from 2000 and up it felt like lightning the afterburner on a MIG-29, it got from 20 to 120km/h in no time but still with that load at 3000 got like crap and the acceleration got misserable. i did ease out a little bit and it got fine and went again full throttle and again went bad.
without load it also seems a bit rough, i hit 3000 and higher and i can see the tach oscilating about 200rpm.
now i'm lost in space.
thanks again and merry christmass.
Fernando.

We had a similar problem with one of our old Q-jets. Turned out to be the thing that raises the secondary needles. It had broken off, or something. It was visible from the top, and if you were to take the air cleaner off, and manually open the throttle to WOT, you could tell whether the hanger was being moved. Basically what happens is the secondaries open, but don't get any extra fuel, and the engine leans way out.
Hope this helps
