Gas shoots out of tank

2nd time ive had to deal with gasoline soaked shoes. Right before I went to my girlfriends too I have to fill my tank up in short burst or gas comes shooting out. Im going to my mechanic next thursday for this but I would really enjoy this to be fixed before that. Anyone know why this happens and can it be easily fixed?

Re: Gas shoots out of tank

There are several possible causes of this. Could be the car or the gas station. Try different stations, not the same brand, as they may be owned by the same person (meaning they all use the same pump flow rates or same nozzles). If it still happens you need to look for a restriction in the fill pipe or vent lines next. Could be as simple as a spider web in a vent line.

Sounds like a vent problem, try pulling nozzle part way out and fill really slow.
