180 T-Stat....add life to motor
180 T-Stat....add life to motor
Ok, I just put in a new motor and it is running the stock 195 T-Stat, Sound hot to me, If I put in a 180 Stat or maybe 170?, and some matching fam controls then would add life to the motor....how may miles do you think I could get out of a TPI305 Moble 1 and cooler setting...I usally don't beat on this engine, it sees 5500 sometimes tho.

i wouldn't bother.. all you'll do is waste gas by running the motor too cool and then running in Open Loop..
if you want to run a cooler stat you should get a run-cool chip and then couple 'that' with a cooler stat..
will it prolong the life of your engine? probably a bit, but not much..
they just ran the engines hotter to help pass emissions so if you live in a smog-regulated state i would tell you to find power elsewhere

Considering where you live, I'm sure it gets cold. I just switched to a 180* stat and works very well for me in cold weather. My car usually runs 190* with it, but I'm still able to get good heating. A 180* won't affect your computer, I believe it's not until you get a 160* that it starts playing havoc on the ECM. I doubt you'll get that much more life out of the engine, but the most important thing is to change the oil consistently.
