passin' smog questions. ..
Haven't smogged my GTA since I bought it. It's bone stock, but I know the valve seals need to be replaced (some white smoke upon startup only).
Will that affect my passing smog? Any tips on what I should upgrade etc, to ensure passing? Thanks.

i see you live in California...
friggin Democrats here man..
anyways, lemme give you a few tips..
change your oil just before going.. since you will burn a 'little' bit of oil during the process you want clean oil (dirty oil will have a bit of blow-by in it, therefore it will increase hydrocarbons at the pipe)
put in new spark plugs and make sure the gap is tight on them, have a gap at spec will help each cylinder fire at it's optimum level..
bring your car in after driving it around town.. hotter engines tend to combust better (hence, this is why GM ran the 3rdgens so hot, to help combustion) don't bring it in after just starting it in the morning..
run your tank empty and fill it with 92 octane.. i dunno if it works but i did it and i passed (mind you, my car had 92,000 miles
)
make sure you are getting good spark, critical!
do NOT use that "Fail-Safe smog check pass" **** it will make you fail for SURE because it gives the sniffer funny readings.. my friend did it and had to retest, at a Smog Test Only center
make sure your timing is not retarded, this will hurt combustion
make sure you have a good, clean air filter.. better air == better combustion
that's about all i can think of..
good luck

I have to go through emissions check every other year and pass with plenty to spare each time. I have a little white smoke at startup too. If there is a big line don't turn off the engine just let it idle and stay nice and warm. Make sure your injectors are clean and your ignition is strong and you should not have any problems.
