lifters
lifters
Lifters are inexpensive and not hard to change... and u should really do just that... what u hear is metal to metal contact through "slapping" , ie there is slop or a gap or lack of hydraulic cushioning to prevent this.... should fix it.
my car has roller lifters so wouldn't it be alot to replace like $400 or so. plus don't you have to rip apart your engine. I have no place to do this. what happens if I don't fix it? can I take lifters from a junkyard motor and use it? will the tranny fluid trick work for now?
I am not positive, but lifters, roller or not get a wear pattern from the specific cam they are used on, I don't think HD-rollers are that expensive, just if your motor was never originally equiped with them OE lifters from summit are 169, the retrofeit are the ones hat are 429
You can reuse stock roller lifters. If you have a collapsed lifter I would just buy all new ones for that $170, that isn't too bad. All you need to do is remove the intake manifold, it is a big job but it is not difficult and the most specialized tool you need is a torque wrench to put it back on correctly.
I don't see why you couldn't take lifters from a junkyard motor, as long as you can tell that they are in good condition. Good luck on that.
