loosening belt from AC

hi I am having trouble loosening the belt that goes from the AC to power steering then the crank and water pump the other belt that goes from the alt water pump and crank is no probs I've loosened 4 bolts and no movement the AC is above the power steering pump on the drivers side thanks does the ac and power steering pump share a bracket that is stopping the AC unit from moving to loosen the belt

Re: loosening belt from AC

i hate those late 70's/early 80's V belt setups. they put too damn many bolts in there, and there is always one or two hidden ones that come in from the rear of the accessories for some reason that only made sense to someone at GM powertrain in the late 70's.

Re: loosening belt from AC

as you all know I have to move the AC unit out of the way but leave the lines connected so I can take the power off and change it and the water pump as well that's the plan

Re: loosening belt from AC

IIRC, the four bolts circled in the attachment are the ones that will allow the AC compressor to pivot so you can remove the belt.

It helps to loosen the PS pump and swing it out of the way to get more slack in the AC belt.
